Mary Silva, M.S., R.D.

Mary Silva is a registered dietitian with a long history of dealing with the nutritional issues of children and women. She has worked in both clinical and community settings. In addition to writing for The Dr. Spock Company, she works as a pediatric nutritionist for the Boston Medical Center Growth and Development Clinic, specifically addressing the nutrition issues that affect a child's growth. In the past, she also has worked with children with developmental disabilities. Ms. Silva has been responsible for overseeing a nutrition program in shelters for homeless families, which included monitoring the status of the residents as well as developing an education program for residents and staff. She also developed a nutrition education curriculum in which restaurant chefs teach nutrition and cooking to low-income women and schoolchildren.
