The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal regulatory agency charged with ensuring that more than 15,000 types of products on the American market are safe to use. Among other duties, the CPSC works with manufacturers to develop voluntary safety standards, enforces mandatory standards, issues recalls of hazardous products, encourages consumers to report safety problems, and educates the public on safety issues.
