Wearing Tight Clothes during Pregnancy
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield:
My daughter is pregnant with her first baby. She is 16 weeks and does not show. She is still wearing tight jeans with snap open. Should she stop wearing tight clothes?

Dear Gmom,
Pregnancy can be hard on your body image, and some people have a difficult time admitting that their bodies are changing--especially when it means getting bigger. The good news is that there isn't any evidence that wearing tight fitting clothes is bad for mother or baby. So it isn't a medical concern, but will become a comfort issue pretty soon.

Many mothers-to-be can get away with wearing regular clothes for quite a while, although they will need bigger sizes as the pregnancy moves along. Hopefully your daughter can find maternity clothes or regular loosely fitted clothes that she considers attractive and that will be comfortable for her, both physically and in terms of her self image, as she inevitably gets bigger.

Congratulations on your upcoming grandchild!
