Stroller Tips
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Jana,
I am currently looking for a stroller and I wanted to know what type is better. I prefer the ones with the infant carrier because I feel the baby would rather be seated, but my husband prefers the pram style that is like a bassinet on wheels. Which one is better for the baby?

Dear Shannon,
Frankly, as far as your baby's comfort is concerned, I'm not sure that there's any difference between a stroller and a pram. I can tell you, however, that many babies are not as eager to spend their time lying down in a pram once they master the skill of sitting.

I personally find that the strollers with detachable infant car-seat carriers extremely practical. In the first couple of months, your baby can sit securely in the infant carrier while you go for a walk. As an added benefit, you can transfer your baby from the stroller to the car without having to disturb her, as you would with a pram. For older infants and even toddlers, you can use the stroller without the carrier. Most have seats where the back adjusts from nearly a full upright position to a full recline.
