Weaning 11-Month-Old from Soy Formula
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Silva,
I am about to start weaning my 11-month-old son from soy formula. Is it best to start him drinking whole cow's milk or fortified soy milk?

Dear Confused Weaner,
Whether you transition your son to cow's milk or fortified soy milk depends on the reason why he currently drinks soy formula. If he was diagnosed with a cow's milk allergy you'll want to consult your pediatrician before making any changes. If he's drinking soy formula because of an earlier intolerance to cow's milk formula you can consider weaning to cow's milk since infants often outgrow their intolerance as their gastrointestinal tract matures.
