Waiting to conceive after miscarriage
QUESTION
How long should one wait after miscarrying before trying to get pregnant again?

— 9/2/00 Mary in Virginia

In general, I recommend waiting for two menstrual periods or three months before trying to conceive. This is mostly because fertility is quite low immediately after a miscarried pregnancy and your periods are likely to be erratic. That combination can lead to a lot of wasted anxiety as every day that you don't get your period you're wondering whether or not you're pregnant. There isn't any danger, however, in getting pregnant sooner than the recommended 3 months.
