Taking a Jacuzzi When Pregnant
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
Taking a Jacuzzi bath has always been a ritual of mine. Do I need to stop this while I'm pregnant?

Dear Dirty in Ohio,
Pregnant women sometimes are advised not to take hot baths because of a concern that raising their body temperatures isn't good for their babies. One study of pregnant women going into hot tubs involved using temperature probes to determine when their body temperatures began to rise. Universally, the women became very uncomfortable and hot when their body temperature started to go up. This being the case, I think it is reasonable to take a not-too-hot Jacuzzi bath and to get out immediately if you start to feel uncomfortable.
