The Perishability of Baby Food
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Silva,
Once I have opened a jar of baby food, how long will it last in the refrigerator? Each time I use the jar of baby food, I use a clean spoon and return the jar to the fridge. Thank you.

Dear Pooh's Mom,
You're right to be concerned about the perishability of baby food. Most manufacturers recommend that once a jar is opened it be refrigerated and used within two to three days.

You're also right to be sure to use a clean spoon and spoon it into another dish. Once a jar has been opened and fed to a baby directly from the jar, the leftovers should be thrown away to prevent the growth of bacteria.
