Handedness: Sources of Information
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Needlman,
Recently there was an article on "left handedness." The article stated that left handedness "goes along with a variety of medical diagnosis, including migraine headaches, seizures and rare immune system problems." My lefty has epilepsy, I was wondering where this study came from and so was her neurologist. We would like to read up on it. Thank you.

ANSWER

Dear SixxKidds,
Thanks for your question. Although we often don't list the sources for factual statements that we make in our articles, I'm glad to provide references on request. The best single source for information on left handedness and epilepsy I found is a chapter in issue number 110 of Clinics in Developmental Medicine, from 1990. The title of the book-length issue, edited by Dorothy Bishop, is Handedness and Developmental Disorder. It should be available through any medical center library. I hope it's helpful to you.
