Signs of Pregnancy
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
How can you tell you are pregnant without taking a test?

— Angel

ANSWER
June 12, 2001
Dear Angel,
The first sign of pregnancy is usually a missed period, although some women can tell by how they feel even before that time. Other signs of pregnancy include breast tenderness, nausea, cravings or aversions to certain foods, and feeling totally exhausted.

Most people do use a pregnancy test to confirm that they are indeed pregnant. The tests you can buy at the drugstore are very accurate. Alternatively, you can go to your doctor's office, a community health center, or a women's clinic and they can run a test for you.
