Helping a 16-Month-Old Gain Weight
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Silva,
My son is 16 months old, and he weights 17 pounds. He does likes to eat, and I am giving Pediasure. Can you please give me some advice about what to do to help him.

Dear Fiona,
It is a great start that your son does like to eat. A good way to help him gain weight is to give him small portions of healthy foods five times a day. I suggest giving his meals and snacks at the same time everyday so he gets used to the routine.

I also recommend giving him a small amount (three to four ounces) of milk or Pediasure after he eats his food. Limiting juice and other drinks to four to eight ounces a day will help him have a good appetite and keep enough space in his stomach for healthy foods.
