Worried about Lack of First Trimester Symptoms | | | QUESTION | | | Dear Dr. Greenfield, I have no signs of morning sickness, and I am about six and a half weeks along. My breasts are slightly tender but that's it. Should I be worried about a greater risk of miscarriage? Worried in Wallingford, CT | | | ANSWER | April 25, 2001 | | | Dear Worried, It is true that women who miscarry have fewer pregnancy symptoms, but the range of normal experience is great--think of all the women who don't know they're pregnant until they feel the baby move or later! Besides, you still may develop some nausea, since this symptom generally peaks around nine weeks.
In early pregnancy, when you can't yet feel the baby move, it is difficult to believe that everything will be OK. While there is never any guarantee that a pregnancy will turn out well, try to take heart that most pregnant women (with symptoms or without) go on to give birth to healthy babies. Hopefully pretty soon it will be obvious that your pregnancy is progressing nicely. And if you can get to that point without feeling horrible, so much the better.
