Treating Children with Sickle Cell Disease
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Jana,
Have you ever dealt with children that have sickle cell anemia before?

— Kim F. in Marion, NC, 28752

ANSWER
April 6, 2001
Dear Kim,
As a general pediatrician, I have had the opportunity to get to know and take care of children with sickle cell anemia.

As a part of my work with The Dr. Spock Company, I have also been fortunate to interact with Dr. Lewis Hsu (a pediatric hematologist/oncologist) and his colleagues at the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. Doctors like Dr. Hsu are not only trained as pediatricians, but also specialize in providing the best possible care on a day-to-day basis for children living with sickle cell disease.
