When to Stop Taking Clomiphene
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
I am taking Clomiphene Citrate to stimulate ovulation. If I begin ovulating do I continue to take this medicine?

— Ann

ANSWER
April 2, 2001
Dear Ann,
Clomiphene citrate is a fertility drug that is given to assist with ovulation. Once good ovulation is established, most experts continue the Clomiphene at the same dose for three or four cycles to see if pregnancy occurs. If your period doesn't come or is not normal, you must have a pregnancy test before starting the medication for the next cycle.

This drug can have side effects such as ovarian cysts and needs to be monitored by your physician. Be sure you are aware of when your doctor wanted you to follow up in the office, and call there if you have any problems. Here's wishing you success!
