When to Give Infants Juice
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Silva,
My daughter is three months old. Can I give her apple juice yet? If not, when is it time for juices?

— Sarah in Ventura

Dear Sarah,
At three months of age your baby is growing very rapidly. She can consume all the energy and other nutrients she needs from breast milk or formula. Juice is usually introduced when an infant is five or six months old. If given, it should be given in addition to breast milk or formula and shouldn't replace them. Infants should be limited to about four ounces a day of juice. Remember that infants and children get more nutrition from eating fruit than juice.
