Getting Pregnant Takes Patience
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
I'm 32 years old, and we have been trying to conceive for eight months. I have a 28-day period, and I experience all the symptoms of ovulation, but I also have severe PMS. Is that the reason why I'm not getting pregnant? If so what can I do to solve it?

Dear Rosca,
Trying to get pregnant month after month without success can be very frustrating. From your comments it sounds like you are having many of the symptoms that go along with making an egg every month--a key part of being able to conceive. Regular cycles, symptoms of ovulation, and PMS (believe it or not) are all signs of normal ovulations and normal hormones.

Doctors usually recommend trying to conceive for a full year before having any sort of medical evaluation. Although it is hard to be patient, getting pregnant often takes time. So keep on trying! And good luck to you and your husband!
