Allergy Shots during Pregnancy
QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
I receive allergy shots (Immune Therapy) and want to know if there is any need for concern while trying to conceive or during pregnancy. Thank you.

Dear Concerned Allergy Patient,
While there is no evidence that allergy shots are unsafe in pregnancy, experts don't recommend that expectant mothers start this treatment or increase the dose of the shots during pregnancy. For those like you who are already on desensitization shots, you can usually remain at the dose you are on when you get pregnant without a problem. After delivery you can go back to the schedule of increasing the strength of the shots. For more information, see our article Allergies in Pregnancy, and ask your physician for his recommendations for your specific situation. I hope that this answered your questions.
