Avoid Feeding Infants Mixed Grains
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Silva,
In your information on solid foods, you state to avoid mixed grains. Why?

— Concerned Grandma in AZ

ANSWER
March 22, 2001
Dear Concerned Grandma,
Giving mixed grains to an infant who is just being introduced to solids is not recommended because infants sometimes have a reaction (such as a rash) to new foods, and it is difficult to identify which grain caused the reaction. After an infant has had any new food several times without a reaction resulting, it's fine to mix foods.
