SUBJECT: Play with Neighborhood Kids/Overprotection
I am the mommy of a bright, outgoing and beautiful 3 year old girl. We just moved to a new neighborhood (our first home) and are dealing with many children being around and wanting to play at each other's homes. We've become very friendly with our nextdoor neighbors and like them very much (one has a near 5 year old girl, the other a 4 year old girl) and no issues have arisen with these neigbors, however my daughter plays predominently with these girls. The house two down from use has two boys - one five and the other nine. All seems ok but we just don't know them as well nor do I think it appropriate for a nine year old boy to want to play with a 3 year old girl. I even have concerns with the five year old as he I'm sure is influenced by his older brother and his older brother will indefinately be around if my daughter were to play with the five year old. The five year old is over constantly wanting to play with my daughter, and my husband ok'd one time for about an hour (against my wishes) indicating the "mom was there." I went and got my daughter after the hour and was pleased they were all together having a snack and watching cartoons. I don't question that visit - however she allows her boys to wander around without her constant supervision (I suspect the 9 year old watches the five year old) and word is the five year old has been in our garage without our knowledge poking around. I interpret this as the mother not being responsible of her boys' whereabouts and this poses concern if and when my daughter is at their house. My husband thinks I'm paranoid, but I'd rather be writing now about a what-if situation than about a what-now. Please advise.
