| Asacol is the trade name for mesalamine, which is a synonym for 5-Aminosalicylic Acid. Some of the other ones, like Prednisone, are steroids. I also work in OB, but I haven't had any patients w/UC. I started having symptoms of the disease at the age of 11 and was misdiagnosed w/Crohn's and some other things before I found out I had UC. I had a pretty long remission from ages 19-27, then a flare-up for about a year (only because I didn't want to go to the Dr.), and now I am having another flare-up (3 years later). The flare-ups are definitely brought on by stress for me because this one was brought on by nursing school and the last one by planning my wedding. I am going to try and get pregnant after this bout and I am very nervous. We had a woman w/Crohn's in our OB triage last week and she had diarrhea all over the place and you could smell it through the whole floor, which would really stress me out because of the embarrassment. Does anyone have any problems with anxiety attacks related to fear of not being able to get to a bathroom in time? I am on Ativan for anxiety because of the UC, but I can't take that during pregnancy. Any suggestions would be great. |
