Hi, I'm the mom who wrote this message. THANK YOU connorsmom for responding. Alot has happened since his first day of kindergarten. Just to first skip to the end, I'm happy to say that my husband & I conferenced with his teacher yesterday & everything has been resolved & I am at peace with things & I truly feel like he is going to have a great kindergarten experience.

This is the very first time I've written on ANY message board, so bear w/me, I tend to get wordy.
I probably need to mention, also, that my son is
a twin (both boys) and we decided to separate them in kindergarten, which for us seems to be the right decision. My other son is the more quiet, serious & more conforming of the 2. And, he has a teacher w/27 yrs experience & a very upbeat, positive attitude. So......in their first 3 days of school, all I got from his teacher was "he's wonderful", "great leader", "so glad he's in my class", etc. And on the flip-side, from my other son I got a phone call the first day & negative reports the next 2 days. Needless to say, I had a very difficult time dealing w/this. I had cried daily until we conferenced w/my first son's teacher.

Skip back to the end...after speaking w/her face to face, I know now that yes, she is strict but she also is very fair and does care about my child. She had contacted his pre-school teacher
(who also has taught kindergarten) and asked for suggestions on how to help him adjust, transition & just what approach seems to work best for him (She also asked me about this during our phone conversation) She admits that she is very strict in the beginning. She says my son has done better EACH DAY & yesterday there was no negative report!!!!!!

Now...that's not to say that I'm naive enough to think it will be smooth sailing from now on. My son can be challenging. I think being so bright, he will prob. tend to get bored easily, and being a 5yr old, he will occasionally still have his meltdowns, test limits, etc. But aftertalkingw/his teacher, I know I can trust she will do her best with him, ask for help when she needs it, and kee me informed & involvedw/what's going on. And I believe her when she says she loves my child.

Thanks again, connorsmom, for responding.
