I am 39 weeks preg. now and started last week with what my doctor is calling pupps. I have tried EVERYTHING since then to help with the itch and nothing is helping. Some spots are so sore they almost look purple and I am covered from the chest down with it. My doctor prescribed zyrtec (antihistamine) which I can take once a day. I take it in the morning and it makes the itch bearable til about three. My doctor also told me to take Benadryl at night. You can only take that every 4-6 hours and it only works for about 2 hours for me. I have tried the Aveeno baths and they calm it for about an hour.
The doctor told me the onyl thing that will relieve it is delivering the baby and even then it will take some time to go away. I have read so many different things on the internet about this. Some say it is an allergic reaction to the fetus' cells in your system, others that it is from the surge in hormones. Whatever it is from it just plain sucks. I itch all the time and cannot sleep because of it. I am miserable at a time when I feel like I should be the happiest. My poor husband, I have been taking it out on him.
It is nice to know that there are others out there going through it too and that someone else understands. I don't even think my husband realizes how miserable this is.
To all others with Pupps, hang in there, it can't last forever, and soon we will have a healthy baby that will make it all worth it.
