AUTHOR: amalee | | | Well this is interesting, the teens being more help than the parents! Well, I can see how, what do we mere mothers know about kids and dating these days?
Amalee, the first thing I can say is that kids are different in different places. Some parents, as we have noticed, have kids who wouldnt dream of dating til they were about 15 or 16. Yet, the spreading influence is that its 'cool' to have a boyfriend and lets face it, girls always want to do what their friends are doing. You could stop your daughter from dating, but if her friends are dating, she will only rebel until you give up. If you tell one kid you will have to stop all the kids within a 100 mile radius not to date!
Now, Im not encouraging it, but I have learnt while bringing up my daughter (now 14) that it only makes it worse to say 'NO' if you dont absolutely need to. I would, however, remind you of the obvious things dating leads to and can lead to. Now she has a boyfriend, you might like to talk to your daughter further on how her relationships will develop as she goes into her teen years, just to try prevent her from doing anything stupid ;-)
