 | Today is my son's second day of kindergarten and already things are bad. His teacher called me the very FIRST DAY to let me know that he had a bad day and seems to be having trouble adjusting. She said he didn't stay in line like he should & was "touching everything" like toys, games, etc. in class and didn't come & sit on the carpet right away when he was called. She was also very concerned because he had a "meltdown" over not coloring something correctly. He was wanting to color an elephant gray & didn't have a gray crayon, so the assistant showed him how to color lightly with a black crayon & he apparantly got very upset when he colored it too dark. She said he was "acting crazy" (her exact words), and it took her a while to get him to calm down.
My son is very smart. He can already read & recognize by sight the 100 words they are to know by Christmas. He's known his colors, shapes, numbers, etc. since age 2. He can add & subtract. He seems to be a perfectionist & I guess a Type A personality already.
I guess my question(s) are 1. Doesn't my child need a little more time to adjust to school?
2. Is this teacher expecting too much too soon?
3. Does it seem to be my child and not the teacher? |
