my 10 yr old daughter and periods

My daughter will be 11 in 2 months, my question is how do I explain to her about her period? She knows that she is going to have one soon(she has already started getting pubic hair and boobs.)She thinks that the menstrual blood comes out of the "butt" area. I tried not to laugh, and then told her that it comes out of the "other hole" down there. What do you recommend? This is hard for me to talk about, so is the whole "boys" and sex thing. I want a close relationship with her because my mom didn't talk to me at all about anything. I learned on my own and got pregnant at 19 with the daughter I'm talking about now. Please help.
