I also would like to comment on this response. I think if she felt that this man was quality or somebody she wanted her child to have a relationship with then she wouldn't be single, if it was her choice. You have to understand that the child's best interest is at stake. just because he fathered the child does not mean he would fulfill the roles and obligations that a "father" would fill. In my situation, the father has not responded in anyway letting me know he wants to be a part of my childs life despite my many efforts. I can't chase him around hoping that he will come to his senses and make the right decision. I have to be an adult and realize that most likely this will be something that i will have to do on my own which is something I think she has come to terms with already. If he comes along later and decides he wants to take responsibility then more power to him. It would be nice to live the fairytale life but that's not reality. It's unfair to pass judgement on a situation that you know absolutely nothing about. all you know is what she told you. and to say that she should not have made herself vulnerable is neither helpful nor encouraging...especially when she is looking for support and advice. I think my advice to you would be try to be a little bit more compassionate towards a single mother in need rather than being offensive. especially if you have good advise to give.
