 | Hi Mom...I can understand your concerns but please know that medications given for ADHD don't change a childs personality. What it serves to do is illimnate impulsive behavior meaning, the medication alows the child the ability to make a choice. Also, your child will come into focus which means is concentration level in school will increase tenfold. This medication does not alter a childs personality and if it does, either the dose is too high or two low. Once the correct dose is acheived, you will start to see a changed child in the sense whereas there school performace is better, his relationships with peers will imrpove as since he is focused, he will pick up on social cues, those that are appropriate and inappropriate in a social setting and his self esteem will sky rocket. When children feel they CAN suceed, they WILL suceed. There is a fountain of propaganda on the interternet that is not only misleading but also has no truth in content. This is not your fault and you are not a bad parent. ADHD is a neurobioligical disorder. You have taken measures to help your child in a way that is suitable to your childs needs and that in fact makes you a good parent so please dont feel guilty. Im sure if your child needed glasses, you wouldnt deny him a pair. Continue to work closely with your doctor and your child and ease up on the guilt Mom, your doing a great job. |
