I've seen many children afraid of the same noises. My son was terrified of the sound of opening a plastic garbage bag. I simply started letting him see when I was going to do that so he would know that the noise was going to happen and soon he was over his fear. A key element dealing with cars, motorcycles and airplanes is that it is a surprise noise, usually no warning that it is coming. Try explaining to your child that these sounds are normal sounds and are always going to be around. Getting them toys of things like planes, motorcycles, and especially vacuums will help them recognize their sounds and that they shouldn't be afraid of them. Pretty soon, you'll see your child running around with their plane or vacuum, making the same noises they were afraid of before. Good luck to all!
