HELP! 13 monthTerrified to sleep alone.

I have a 13 month old son who has been in our room in his crib sense birth. At 8 months he would not sleep in the crib so we went to a twin bed next to our bed. He was ok (still waking up however). Now I was told it is time to try to move him to his room. So I did big mistake. He is now terrified to be alone even during the day. I dont believe in "crying it out" but I have done it to see if that works but his screams get worse and he is shaking when i go in there. Now I have tried to get him to sleep in there for naps and putting him to sleep at night in his pack in play in our room. But it has gotten to the point he doesn't want nothing to do with either. He is horrified. So he ends up in bed with us. I have thought about being his twin bed back in our room and just making a big family bed. But everyone tells me that this is "giving in to him". Which they dont see how horrified he really is. Please help me.
