 | I have taken a few plane trips with my son (now 16 months old), and it is definately not one of my favorite expereinces, but it can be done. A few tips:
* If she still takes a bottle or a pacifier, save it for right after takeoff and before landing - the sucking helps a lot with the ears. You can also use a cup if she no longer uses a bottle. * You MUST buy her own seat - sounds like you are doing this already. I act like the car for the most part - he doesn't get out of the seat. I have bought his own seat since he was an infant. They are usually half price for kids under 2. * If you are not opposed to it (and I am not), use Benadryl. For the occasional trip like this, I think it is okay to give her something that will allow her to sleep. Try it beforehand to make sure she isn't one of the 2% that has the hyperactive reaction. Most kids get knocked out with it. For kids under 2, you can give 1/2 the normal dose. * Try to plan the trip during a naptime if you think she will sleep. If you doubt she will sleep on the plane, try for a time where she can wake up and leave for the airport so she won't be too overtired and cranky on the plane. * Take shifts with your husband so that you don't go crazy watching her. Even just a 15 minute break is well worth it on a plane. * If she's really restless, get up and walk around with her as much as possible. Depending on turbulence, you may be able to let her walk down the aisle. * Buy a few new toys and books and wrap them up - the unwrapping as well as the new stuff should buy you some time of her keeping busy.
I can't think of anything else right now...
Good luck! -Kari |
