Not an easy one to answer. America is still in the sexual Dark Ages and kids can be very cruel.

Is there a gay bookshop or cafe you could work at part time? A theatre group or something similar may be another idea.

Fight for your sexual freedom and then remember to fight for that of others, even if they are not into your 'bag'.
