 | My ped's advise was this: no pull-ups, no training pants. Go straight to underwear and expect mistakes, alot of them. Deal with the mistakes. Start using underwear 1 hour per day for 2 weeks, then increase to 2 hours per day for 2 weeks, then increase to 3 hours per day for 2 weeks, etc. He said the worst thing you can do is start and stop potty-training, once you start you need to perservere.
Two of my friends trained girls successfully but experienced mistakes only when the child became angry with the parent. The both calmly placed the child in the shower and rinsed them off with cold water, then instructed the child to place the soiled clothes in the washer. Both parent were successful in eliminating the "mistakes."
I have a 2 yr 10 mo old boy and have only had partial success. He definately knows exactly what to do and decides to do it only some of the time. I am now going to combine my ped's advise with sticker rewards. I read about a chart with rows for stickers, and a toy at the end. Once the child fills a row with stickers, he gets the toy at the end of the row. We'll see. Boys seem to be pretty difficult. |
