| Biting another child is obviously not acceptable behavior. I teach Kindermusik at a few day care centers and in my own studio. Biting is not tolerated. We have a 3 strikes rule. I would have intervened sooner than 2 dozen times.
#1, the children need to be separated (but I'm telling you reality -- unless there are two 2-year-old classes at your day care center, that just isn't going to happen). #2, you shouldn't be in this position but you need to tell the director that if the situation isn't rectified (meaning the other child is removed from harming your son), then you will have to leave. It is your daycare center's responsibility to have a policy in place regarding biting. In my schools, it's the "3-strikes, you're out" rule.
Here's another dose of reality for ya. You are the customer. Yes, they are providing a service for you but remember -- you are paying for that service. Part of what you should expect is that your child is in a safe and loving atmosphere while you are working. If they are unable to provide what you expect, then go somewhere else. I'm sure your child will adjust as most children that have been in daycare have had a change of teachers at least 5 times before age 4. This is because we pay our teachers so little and they leave. Children adjust. They miss their teacher. But then a new one comes along and a new relationship is built.
