SUBJECT: in-laws who discipline your children
My husband is in the Navy and my in-laws feel compelled to discipline my children, my brother-in-law in particular. When at his house the other night, he felt he needed to put my son (3yrs.) in the corner for not sharing with his daughter. I also have a two year old so my older son is a little territorial when it comes to toys he's been playing with. I don't applaud my son for this, but I also know that it is age appropriate. My brother-in-law just has a very low tolerance for kids that yell and scream (his daughter began whining--she is 4). My son began to cry and started walking out of the corner to come to me and his uncle pushed him back into the corner. This upset me a great deal because I was sitting in the room and he did not allow me the opportunity to discipline my own son. His famous words are "My house, my rules". I just feel he has always been too tough, border line abusive with his daughter and I do not want my son being scarred by his actions (I on the other hand am a little laid back as far as punishments go). We've already had words about this issue and I'm really sensing the need to avoid them all together. Any advice??????????
