I got rid of the bottle at 15 months - my son had his only before naps and bedtime. I got rid of all of them at once. We had a bedtime routine that included bath, PJs, rocking (with bottle), singing, bedtime. Now we do bath, PJs, rocking, reading/singing, brushing teeth, bedtime. All before brush teeth, he is allowed a sippy cup. At first he drank very little from the cup, but now he drinks about 6 ounces before bed. I thought he would wake from hunger because he was drinking a lot of milk, but he simply eats a lot more food now.

Hope that helps! I would offer a cup or snack before bedtime and brush teeth after. Perhaps you can try cutting down the ounces in the bottle then offering the cup for the remainder at first, but I did it all cold-turkey and it wasn't bad. The 3rd day he was kind of whiny, but not bad. You may want to determine if you want to do snacks or cups depending on how early dinner is - if it is late, he may not need a snack. Mine eats about 1.5 hours before bed, so I think a cup is good for him.

Good luck!
-Kari
