I told myself that when I found this message board (just yesterday) that I wouldn't bother responding but I have to. I know that I am never going to change the fact that you beat your children but I can't keep to myself. I am shocked, totally shocked at what I read on this board. Why do you, and others like you (ie classof68) insist that it is ok to beat a child? I am sorry but HITTING a child with a hairbrush or a sandal or slipper is friggin abuse!!! I read some of the other responses (I think paulamom?) where the submissive and humiliated child came to the parent to show her his bruise. What!? If you do bruise your child because you HIT them so hard, why would you brag about it and why would someone else inquire about it? Asking questions like, "Have you hit him since the bruise?" or whatever was said. My God, I have never seen so many messed up people gathered in one place. Do you have any idea what you are doing to the child's self esteem? You are causing pain on another person with an object (or your hand) in order to teach them a lesson!? Then you all get together on this board and talk about it like it's what you did over the weekend! And to suggest that you do it in front of an audience is SICK.
Are you that powerless in other aspects of your life that you have to make yourself feel worthy by beating the crap out of your children? Don't tell me that you are disciplining because there are discipline tactics and there is punishment that touches all too frequently on abuse.
Don't bother responding to me because I'm done. You'll be happy to know that I won't be back to visit this topic again, I will be too busy hugging my kids and remembering why I had them in the first place.
