 | Thanks for your views, and thanks to everybody else that has offered an opinion. The balance of opinion here seems to be that we shouldn't spank any of our kids, or at least not on their bare bottoms. The trouble is, nothing else seems to work. My step-daughter is almost totally out of control now and my wife is still insisting that I should give her a good hiding. I'm resisting, though: I threatened to once but when it came to it, I bottled out and just gave her yet another "final warning".
My own daughter is now getting almost as bad, seeing that her step-sister seems to be able to act as she pleases. I've told her that we're trying to get away from spanking, and she just laughed, saying that we might as well hand over running of the family to the kids!
This is causing real friction between me and my wife - she says that I'm failing in my duties as head of the household (maybe I should take up Janie's suggestion and put HER across my knee...).
My son and younger step-daughter are no problem. It's just the two older girls (both 16 now). I really do think that we've exhausted all other avenues (grounding, withdrawing privileges, cutting pocket money, etc have all failed) and pretty soon I'm going to have to spank them both.
I really am at my wits' end. |
