 | I was wondering if you had any good ideas on how to get an 18 year old to cooperate. I have been trying to get him to help with three areas at home, cleaning his room, doing his own laundry, and keeping the yard mowed during the summer months. He agrees to do these things and then weeks go by and they are still not done. Since he is living with us rent free in order to attend college at the local university, I don't think these are unrealistic expectations. We were hoping this would help him out financially, but I'm not sure he sees the rewards to this agreement.
The problem is, he seems to think that since he turned 18 he doesn't have to live by our rules anymore. I want to tell him he can either do the three things himself, hire someone to do it for him and pay them with his money, or move out. I wonder if this is to harsh or if he will actually take the later of the three choices. I really don't want him to move out and I'm afraid that he will be able to read that from my threat......do you have any better solutions or am I headed in the right direction? |
