SUBJECT: Alternative to ADHD drugs..........
I have a 5 year old who has symptoms of ADHD and his teacher advised us to take him to a Child Psychologist and that person referred us to a Neorologist or Psychiatrist. We took him to a Neorologist who in the first visit, gave us a prescription for Wellbutrin. A drug used to treat ADHD but was made for adults with depression. My husband and I both agree that we do not want our 5 year old son on drugs just because he is a very active child in school. I saw this as being normal behavior until we began to talk to this Child Psychologist and now this Neorologist, now I have mixed emotions. But the one thing I am certain is that I do not want to see my son looking like he is drugged out. I have also been reading about the side effects and long-term effects and I am 100% sure I DO NOT want to use any type of drug to help him be more calm. My question is - are there any parents out there who feel the same way I do? Is there an alternative to drugs that are proven effective? I have been doing so much research and have been reading so much that my head is spinning and I do not know what to do. I know that a change in his diet and vitamins will help somewhat and I am certainly going to start him on this changes.

If anyone has any comments or advise, please respond to my email.

Thank you,

Angel
