8 year old forgets his homework and its hurting his grades

my eight year old is very forgetful.He does his work fine and does not have any learning problems.
His problem is not bringing home some of his homework and books. He isn't doing well in some subjects just because of missed homework. I spoke to the teacher and she gave him a homework log that he has to "remember" to show to her. Of course he forgets to do that. I am so frustrated because I don't want to see him do badly because he "forgot". I scheduled a confrence w/ the principal and the teacher to try to resolve. Any advice would be great.
