| I am a mom with 4. And I have to say each one was different. Each required a different type of discipline. My oldest was tough when he was born, not afraid of anything. But I was tough too, and did not back down on stuff. I am the oldest girl in a family of 4 and had done a lot of babysitting, in Ireland and here in the US. at work (regular job)before I got married, I paid attention to parents and their kids - how they interacted. My oldest John is turning out to be a fine polite kid (except with me of course). We can sit down and talk. James and Deirdre the two middle ones are afraid of everything. Deirdre found a spider on her bike and ran screaming - neighbours came running to see what is wrong -, they had a laugh when they found out it was over a spider. My 6 year old- James, he has weak muscles because he refused to do anything for himself. We are doing exercises for that. When you ask him to do work like take out recycling pick up toys, etc. He starts crying. I turn to him and ask - did someone hit, pinch, beat you up? He says no -then I ask why are you crying, because if you are crying so you won't have to do your chores it does not work. Chores are going to make your muscles stronger. he did a phase where he would throw up things he did not like, or throw up as a temper tantrum - he stopped after I stood over him and made him clean up the throw up a couple of times. Now we have Fiona, she turned 2 in February. she is clingy - but she is not afraid of much. My biggest fear with her is that she grabs my leg when I am in the kitchen and holds on. She wants to be picked up all the time - which is no good, because the more they are carried around, the weaker the leg muscles are. If a child throws a tantrum, pick them up, put them in the corner on special time out chair, and be firm, look them in the eye and tell them to cool down. Each time they try to get off the chair - back on. |
