SUBJECT: intelligent children over looked as adhd
hi i have an 10 year old son who also was assessed as adhd but i my self didn't see what teachers were saying about my son. he was put on meds to make him slow down and think. it didn't turn him into a slug, however through some research from the national education website i found out that children who also are gifted act the same as adhd. my son has made A-B roll every report card. except the two years he was on med. although they didn't fall drastic they still fell to lower A-B's. sometimes a child that is gifted wont pay attention to class or dr.'s task because the task at hand are simple. if a child feels a task is of no importance they seem to want to move to another task thus giving them short attention to the lesser task. maybe your child needs to be in a class that teaches him to his abilities not over looking them. i took my son off his meds and grades and learning have even yet improved he is thirsty for knowledge often his teacher can't give him enough. your school and your kids teacher needs to work with you and your child maybe with extra or more in depth material. often people are told adhd is where a child's mind works faster than he can. i ask you do you think that this is a bad thing????? or do we need to find out how to help our child excel. we are their parents if you don't fight for them who will.
