Hi Natalie-
I am or was 6 weeks this week. I went in last week (Thursday) and had a sonogram and came in again on Tuesday to have another so the doctor could check for the heartbeat. He decided that since the embryo sac had not grown I had miscarried. Then they did a vaginal sonogram and redid blood levels. The woman doing the sonogram said that my having a full bladder had distorted the picture and that she now saw an embryo and a yolk sac which she had not seen before. She said this was more positive. But, then the doctor came in and said that he stood by what he had said before and would do another sonogram this coming Tuesday and then schedule a D&C. I know 6 weeks is kind of early to hear a heartbeat and am confused by his readiness to do a D&C. I don't know what to think since there's obviously something still there and I haven't had any spotting - although I realize not everyone always does. Like most people, my husband and I really wanted this baby. I'm 40 and this is my/our first pregnancy. My husband is an out of work CEO who has had a difficult time the past two years finding work with the way the world is now. We really thought this baby was good news. Although, I believe I probably will lose the pregnancy or have lost it, I'm terrified of a D&C. I'm afraid that I will feel empty inside, hollow. There is such an overwhelming sadness about this that overcomes me whenever I think about it.
