My wife has a 22 year old son that has always lived with us (his dad died when my stepson was age 5)
The problem is more with my wife than stepson. Like I said he is 22, lives at our house rent free, does no chores, comes and goes as he pleases, and leaves messes for us to clean up. He also has a tendencies to leave lights and TV on in the house and leave the house (leaving nodody home). He now works full time earning $10 an hour. He blows his money foolishly on himself and his girlfriend.
He was only supposed to live with us rent free until he finished college. but after 3 years of failing and dropping classes he gave up and quit school. Now my wife doesn't want him to pay rent because she doesn't want to take his money because she wants him to save for the future.
Also my wife feels that if she charges him rent he will just move out on his own and she doesn't want that, so she makes life easy for him.
She is only hurting him by not teaching him responsibility.
I am sick and tired of working to pay bills in a household where an adult lives who is earning $400 weekly, that does no housework, eats my food, abuses my utilities and comes and goes as he pleases.
The real problem is my wife and her insecurities of letting him grow up. My wife and my stepson's girlfriend also have no relationship after being with my stepson for 3 years. My wife feels that if he moves out they (stepson & girlfriend) will get closer.
Any advice I how to cope? | |  | |
