We did not have to go as far as neocate but almost. Turns out he was not only allergic to soy but also milk proteins. Breastfeeding was impossible unless I wanted to exist eatting 5 things! We went to Alimentium without problems and at a year weaned over to milk across a couple of months. I was lucky he grew out of it. Some do not. Another mother switched to Rice Dream and bought by the case from the local health store and was able to wean off at 2.5 years. With the cramping yours has I would stay on the neocate (most insurance companies will help with this cost) because it is medically necessary and they will not with the others. Remember the alternatives like Rice milk when you get ready to try something else. Time passes very quickly - mine is now 17 months and doing well. Good luck!
