Okay... this is an opinion. I have a friend (that is a girl), and she's very similar to you. She's very beautiful (haha, I'm not trying to hook you up... unless... anyway), and intelligent, you name all the good things, she's that. But I doubt she'll have much intimate contact with [anyone] any time soon. She is a very shy person. She really likes this boy (who I really think is not her type...he's just too weird, they're total opposites--which is expected, I guess). I feel this type of attitude is definitely a form of self defense. You don't want to be hurt by others (emotionally) and have your share of self-consciousness. There's really no advice I can give her to make her more "social", and that's because the choice is hers, really. She blames it on Elementary School. But that was then, I tell her, this is now, and now is the time when she can choose to open up to others and let the people she wants into her life. This doesn't mean that she has to change entirely...
