SUBJECT: 39 years old, pregnant, no family and left the father
I have some real concerns and guilt! I am 39 years old, which makes me nervous to have a child for fear of birth defects; I am about 6 weeks pregnant.

I also left the father, who wanted to get married but does not seem capable of really showing up. When he gets upset he always walks out on me, usually at very terrible times to be walking out on someone, than I hear from him weeks later. One time he left after I had eye surgery and I literally couldn't see, he didn't like anything I had to eat in the house so he stomped off and that was it for about two weeks.

Bottom line, he says he wants the baby and to be there for both of us, but there has been too many instances of him walking out and I do not want the stress. I do not trust him and this time I left him. I do not have any male role models to have in this child's life and that concerns me.

I guess I am scared that I am not doing the right thing, I definitely will be on my own. Any thoughts or experiences to share?
