SUBJECT: Moving and a new school
We are moving within the same town but into a great school district. Right now my petite five yr. old daughter (whose birthday is in Sept and is the size of a three yr. old) is attending a great catholic school in town and doing great. The teacher has told us that she is right on track. Which is great but, she had a hard time adjusting to full day kindergarden where she didn't know any of the children. She took the bus to school for the first two weeks and then stopped taking it to school (but continued to take it home) until one day in Nov. she said she wanted to take the bus. The good news is that she's still taking it to and from school. She has a very hard time with change and I feel that our move (this July) to a new house is just going to throw her for a loop. We'd like to switch her to the public school in Sept. and I know that this on top of the move will be hard for her. We are thinking of starting her in Kindergarden in the new school because of her very small size and her maturity level. But I wonder if she'll be bored because she is doing fine in Kindergarden now. She knows five children who attend the new school (these kids are in Kindergarden now) from her nursery school. I just don't know the right decision. Should we keep her in her current school - even through it will be hard to do financially (I'm a stay at home mom - I also have a 16 month old son). Should we start her in First grade at the new school, where she may know a few of the children (two live very close to our new house)? or should we start her in Kindergarden in the new school????
I need your advise, please help.
Thanks!
