SUBJECT: Glasses for an 18-month old
Our son was born at 26 weeks and is doing great now. When he was in the hospital (and still just 5 lbs) he had eye surgery to correct a problem with both his retinae.

After an eye appointment last Thursday, we found out his retinae are fine, but his vision isn't. He's got 20/20 in the left eye, but near-sightedness in the right. The doctor said he needs glasses and that we'll have to put a patch over the good eye to force him to use the bad eye and strengthen it. Otherwise he'll "forget" he has the other eye, won't use it and it will get much worse (to the point of possible blindness.)

Has anyone had to deal with glasses on a child so young? How about the patch? Add to that the fact that since he was a preemie, he had many tubes and such taped or attached around his head. He hates hats, sunglasses and anything touching his nose. Help! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My consolation is that I'm doing the best thing for his sight...and that my son loves me very much. I just want to make it as easy as possible on him.
