I must say i was lucky. My daughter just spit out her "sucky" one day when she was about 6 months old. However my niece had her sucky until she was almost 3. What she did was cut all the nipples off of it and told her they were all broke and that was that. She never asked for it again. Nothing wrong with taking both things away concidering he has a blanky. good luck
